Wikinomics; the round whole for square pegs
March 16th, 2008 by Carl Munson
Having wondered for nearly forty years how the hell I could be useful, it seems my time has come. What have always seemed like good ideas to me - networking, collaborating, sharing, being open and enjoying work and life - have come together in what’s apparently being called the new age of “wikinomics“.
Couple those values - ready for take-off - as they now appear to be, with Web2.0 (the new Web of user generation, upload over download and real people power), see: www.copperstrings.com, and you get a world where anything is possible and probable. We only need the will; now that the ways and means are being figured out to make life more lovely for everyone.
Pinch me! This is a great time to be alive. Help me! Let’s make it happen together…

Here are some excerpts from Don Tapscott and Anthony D William’s book Wikinomics, which I wholeheartedly commend to the house…
“The new promise of collaboration is that with peer production we will harness human skill, ingenuity, and intelligence more efficiently and effectively than anything we have witnessed previously.”
“Twenty years from now we will look back at this period … as a critical turning point in economic and social history. We will understand that we entered a new age, one based on new principles, worldviews, and business models where the nature of the game was changed.”
“Engaging in collaborative communities means ceding some control, sharing responsibility, embracing transparency, managing conflict, and accepting that successful projects take on a life of their own.”
